Slice UPI Credit Card Now Open to All Users
Updated 4 April 2026
TL;DR: Slice, India’s digital-first bank, has opened its UPI credit card to all customers. The card was invite-only since July 2025 and had built a waitlist of over 1.2 million users. Applications are now being processed in order, and new signups are open to everyone.
What Happened
Slice announced on March 31, 2026 that its UPI credit card is now available to all customers — ending a nine-month invite-only phase that began in July 2025.
The card had quietly built a waitlist of more than 1.2 million customers during the restricted period. Rajan Bajaj, founder and CEO of Slice, confirmed via a tweet that the company will begin processing waitlisted applications shortly and is now accepting all new ones.
This launch is significant because it marks one of the first large-scale efforts to build a credit product natively on India’s UPI rails. Unlike traditional credit cards that rely on Visa or Mastercard networks for point-of-sale transactions, the Slice UPI credit card works directly through UPI — meaning it’s accepted at all 65 million+ UPI merchants across the country without any additional terminal or integration.
Slice also claims this is the largest deployment of no-cost instalments in the world, with EMI options available at UPI merchants — something that was previously only possible at select online and POS terminals with traditional cards.
Who’s Affected
- 1.2 million waitlisted users — applications are now being processed. If you signed up during the invite-only phase, expect to hear from Slice soon.
- New applicants — anyone can now apply for the Slice UPI credit card through the Slice app.
- Existing Slice users — those already using other Slice products (savings account, prepaid card) may have a faster approval path.
- Small merchants — the 65 million UPI merchants who previously couldn’t offer credit card EMI now have access to no-cost instalment transactions via this card.
Key Changes
| Detail | Before (July 2025 – March 2026) | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Invite-only | Open to all |
| Waitlist | 1.2 million+ | Being processed |
| New applications | Not accepted | Now accepted |
| Merchant acceptance | 65M+ UPI merchants | Same — no change |

What Should You Do?
If you’re on the waitlist: No action needed. Slice says it will process existing applications automatically. Keep your Slice app updated and ensure your KYC documents are current — this will speed up approval.
If you’re interested in applying: Download the Slice app and apply directly. Approval depends on standard credit checks. Since Slice operates as a bank (post its merger with North East Small Finance Bank), expect a proper credit bureau pull.
Before you apply, consider:
- This is a UPI-native credit card. It works at all UPI QR merchants, which is a massive acceptance network in India — but verify whether it also comes with a Visa/Mastercard/RuPay network variant for international or online use.
- No-cost EMI at UPI merchants sounds compelling, but read the terms carefully. “No-cost” often means the merchant absorbs the interest or it’s built into the price.
- Check the annual fee, interest rate on revolving credit, and reward structure before committing.
If you already have a strong credit card: Compare the Slice UPI card’s benefits against your current card. The UPI-native angle is genuinely new, but your existing card likely has a more established rewards program, higher credit limits, and lounge access.
