How This Tool Calculates Your Card Value

Unlike tools that just match keywords, the Lifestyle Card Matcher calculates a projected annual value in rupees for each card based on your actual spending. Here's how:

  1. Reward earnings — your monthly spend is split across selected categories. If a card specialises in that category (e.g. "dining" tag on a dining card), we use the card's best reward rate. Otherwise, we use the base rate.
  2. Feature bonuses — forex savings (comparing the card's markup to the standard 3.5% + GST), fuel surcharge waivers (~1% saved), and lounge access (valued at ₹1,200/domestic visit and ₹2,500/international visit).
  3. Annual fee — subtracted from the total to give you a net annual value. A negative number means the fee exceeds the estimated benefits at your spend level.

The result is a concrete rupee figure you can compare across cards — no vague scores or arbitrary rankings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the projected annual value?

It's an estimate based on published reward rates, forex markups, and lounge access policies. Actual value depends on where you spend (specific merchants may earn more or less), whether you hit milestone bonuses, and how you redeem points. Think of it as a useful comparison tool, not a guarantee.

What if my spending isn't evenly split across categories?

The tool currently splits your monthly spend equally across selected categories. If 80% of your spend is dining and 20% is fuel, the actual value from a dining-focused card would be higher than shown. We're working on weighted category sliders for v2.

Why does a "free" card sometimes show more value than a premium card?

Because net value = rewards + bonuses - annual fee. A premium card with ₹10,000 fee needs to earn ₹10,000+ more than a free card just to break even. At lower spend levels, many free cards genuinely deliver more net value.

How are lounge visits valued?

We value domestic lounge visits at ₹1,200 each (typical walk-in price) and international visits at ₹2,500. We cap domestic at 12/year and international at 4/year for realistic use. Cards with quarterly visit limits are multiplied by 4.
