Your data, your control
CardTrail is built on trust. That extends to how we handle your information. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and what we don't do.
Last updated: 20 March 2026
The Short Version
- • We don't sell your data. Ever.
- • We don't require an account to use CardTrail.
- • Your saved cards are stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- • We use analytics to improve the site, not to profile you.
Information We Collect
Information you provide voluntarily
- • Email address — Only if you subscribe to our newsletter. Used solely to send you credit card news and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- • Contact form messages — If you reach out via our contact page, we receive your name, email, and message content.
- • Quiz responses — Your answers to the Find My Card quiz are processed in real-time to generate recommendations. They are not stored on our servers or linked to your identity.
Information collected automatically
- • Analytics data — We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use CardTrail — which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and which features are used. GA4 uses first-party cookies and does not track you across other websites. IP addresses are anonymised.
- • Local storage — Your saved cards (wallet) and preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.
How We Use Your Information
- • Newsletter delivery — Your email is used to send credit card updates. We do not share your email with banks, advertisers, or any third party.
- • Site improvement — Aggregated analytics data helps us understand which content is useful and where users get stuck, so we can improve the experience.
- • Responding to queries — If you contact us, we use your information to reply to your message.
What We Don't Do
- • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- • We do not share your email address with banks or card issuers.
- • We do not use retargeting or behavioural advertising.
- • We do not collect financial information such as card numbers, bank account details, or credit scores.
- • We do not require registration to use any core feature of CardTrail.
Cookies
CardTrail uses a minimal number of cookies:
- • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — Used to distinguish unique visitors and sessions. These are first-party cookies set by GA4. They expire after 2 years (_ga) or 24 hours (_ga_*). You can opt out using browser settings or a Google Analytics opt-out browser extension.
We do not use any advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or third-party analytics beyond GA4.
Third-Party Services
- • Vercel — Hosts the CardTrail website.
- • Google Analytics 4 — Provides aggregated usage analytics.
- • Google Fonts — Loads the Inter and Sora typefaces.
Data Retention
- • Newsletter emails — Retained until you unsubscribe. Upon unsubscription, your email is deleted within 30 days.
- • Contact messages — Retained for up to 12 months, then deleted.
- • Analytics data — GA4 retains data for 14 months by default.
Your Rights
Under applicable Indian data protection law (including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), you have the right to:
- • Access the personal data we hold about you.
- • Request correction of inaccurate data.
- • Request deletion of your data.
